I think we can learn a lot from animals. Especially their way of “soaking” in the moment.
Two weeks ago, I took my toddlers to the zoo. It was a magnificent fall day – warm, the sun was glimmering and the fall colours were in full display.
All the animals were outside soaking in the sun, just like this baboon, who I snapped a picture of.
It felt magical and for a moment I felt I was in their natural habitat, far, far away.
I felt it even more when we got to the lions. When we arrived, a family of lions were outside and calmly hanging out on a hill – chilling, cuddling, napping and absorbing the sun. Just being.
My breathing slowed, my eyes opened, I felt their primal energy and moment by moment existence.
Animals. They can teach us something.
Here in the modern world, us humans, think we have made such “progress”. We’ve figured out how to digitize everything, make communication flow at the speed of light, view multi-tasking as a sign of competence.
It may be worth reflecting the odd time however, whether this is in fact “progress”? Maybe we can produce things faster, reply faster, but are all these measures of “progress” making our lives better? What finish line are we racing to?
I wonder if the animals are the ones getting it right.
Hi Sybil, thank you so much for your note. We will definitely stop by soon!
You are absolutely right about animals. I have had my dog Spud for 2 years and am just beginning to tap into all that he is offering me. Thank you for telling me about your website. I have been enjoying it for the past 90 minutes. The boys are welcome to come over any time to play with Spud. He loves to chase balls and is learning to do things like jump through hoops. Don’t forget to check out the shed in my messy back yard.
