Yesterday, I watched a documentary on 6 people whose lives have changed because of water. One was a woman in her 30s who lived in Hawaii.
She grew up in the water and over time learned to deep dive in one breath. She could go down 100 feet, swim for a few minutes at the bottom of the sea, spear fish, and then come up. Growing up, her and her father would go out to sea to catch her family’s dinner every night. She learned these skills along the way.
The doc showed images of her now, in her 30s, gliding through the water under the sea. She moved slowly and calmly.
In the evenings, she would pull out a table on the beach, throw on some fabric, put a flower in a vase and share her catch with local friends and family as the sun went down. Simple. Beautiful.
Sometimes I question our way of life here in North America. Is it progress from this simple alternative?
As I raise my kids, I feel something pulling me to nature, to live in nature, away from the city, more simply.
Do we need to pay high rents/ mortgages, buy more things, and go to restaurants – who all, also charge a lot so the owners could also keep up with their high costs?
Am I going crazy? Or, is there another way?
Why do I keep visualizing living by the Sea, on a farm, or in a small community with a small neighborhood strip and lots of land and the sea around? I am craving the ocean breeze, the dirt, the land. I am craving the sounds, pace and energy of the earth.
In our city vibe, its easy to get lost in it. Easy to get lost in our lives of work, kids, programs, birthday parties, scheduling and logistics.
I seem to be craving another vibe.
Lets see how it unfolds.
