Skiing with a Little Guy

So my 6 year old son just learned to ski.  We had him on skiis since he was 3, but I would say this year is when he really learned to hold his own.

Last weekend him and I had some solo time on the slopes (my youngest was tired so felt like chilling in the chalet). The two of us had so much fun. It was such an incredible feeling to feel like I was just hanging with him. Not taking care of him in the every day kind of way, but just each having fun and together.

The look on his face when I surprised him and started taking mini detours through the trees (don’t worry, I was safe!), was incredible. I looked at him and his eyes looked back and sent messages of: awe, bliss and wow, I have the greatest mom. I could tell these thoughts of his, just by looking at his eyes. Which I’m sure every mom/ parent feels from their kid.   I was just having fun, how I like to have fun. In a playful, spontanious, silly way and he was diving in.  It felt so nourishing to be in a groove, the ski groove, together.

As we went on the chairlift, towards the end of the day, I could sense he was so appreciative of the moment.  He kept looking at me, in my eyes with love, and putting his little arms around me with such affection.  I felt the energy. I felt our groove. I felt lucky.
